Underskirts dont need to be big netted skirts. This one is something we have used for years.  It holds a shape without adding too much volume.  It holds the linings away from the legs giving more airflow.  Its also helpful for giving a slight lift on the hem which could be all you need instead of a hem alteration.
 
We've used this on some fit and flare dresses, 'A' line, full skirts and big ball gown skirted dresses.
 
If you are looking for extra volume or for a fishtail effect this isnt for you.
